It’s been just over a year since NFL fans binged on Netflix’s “Quarterback”, the docuseries that followed the likes of star signal-callers such as Patrick Mahomes and Kirk Cousins. Now, it seems the platform is set to present another NFL-focused series. Only this time, the spotlight will fall on some of the game’s best pass catchers.

Netflix unveils “Receiver”

According to an announcement on Tuesday, Netflix is set to release a new Sports docuseries entitled “Receiver.” As you can probably guess, the series will follow the lives of some of the NFL’s most prolific wide receivers and is set for release later this year.

Regarding which players will be featured in the upcoming series, it’s understood that we will be taken inside the lives - both on and off the field - of players such as Justin Jefferson, Davante Adams, George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, and Amon-Ra St. Brown. It is understood that the show will be jointly produced by NFL Films, Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions, and Mahomes’ 2PM Productions. If they sound familiar, that’s because those were the same companies responsible for the production of last year’s hit NFL show, “Quarterback.”

Interestingly, Manning recently revealed that “Quarterback” had been renewed for a second season, however, he also disclosed that the process of finding willing participants was becoming increasingly more difficult, with stars such as Dak Prescott, Jalen Hurts, Trevor Lawrence, and Tua Tagovailoa all reportedly declining the offer to be featured. To that end, a switch in focus was decided upon and the idea for “Receiver” was born. “The natural progression is from a pass to a catch, so we’re excited to dive into the ‘Receiver’ world after the success of our ‘Quarterback’ series,” said Netflix executive Gabe Spitzer. “NFL Films and Omaha Productions have delivered again in finding unique and dynamic athletes who will further highlight the drama of this sport on and off the field.” If you’re wondering, in the same way as its predecessor, “Receiver” will be spread across eight, 45-minute episodes. It is scheduled for release in summer 2024.
