Netflix cuts off iOS 16 devices, no longer supporting older iPhones and iPads
Netflix is discontinuing support for older iPhones and iPads running iOS 16.
In a report by 9to5Mac, users on devices with iOS 16 are receiving a notification from Netflix stating, “We’ve updated the Netflix app! To use the latest version, install iOS 17 or later.”
Earlier in July, Netflix had discontinued its app for the third-generation Apple TV, announcing the drop in support through email sent to subscribers.
In the email, Netflix wrote that it is making this change to “ensure you maintain the best possible Netflix viewing experience.”
And now, the Netflix app will no longer support devices that can't be upgraded to iOS 17, including the iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and the first-generation iPad Pro and iPad 5.
Users with these devices will miss out on future Netflix updates, including critical bug fixes and security patches. Apple will release iOS 18 on September 16th.
