Paul George looks to be on his way off the Los Angeles Clippers. Despite having multiple opportunities to do so, the front office has not offered the 34-year-old a max extension in the way it did Kawhi Leonard.

As a result, over the past few months, there has been a lot of chatter about where George will go from here. At least one team has been viewed as a serious frontrunner to steal him away should he depart L.A., but this week a new contender for his services emerged.

That squad? The Los Angeles Lakers.

According to Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report, the Los Angeles Lakers are a team to watch when it comes to George.

“The combination of LeBron James (who would be more likely to re-sign with the Lakers himself), Anthony Davis and George would become one of the best Big Threes in all of basketball, improving L.A.’s outside shooting and overall defense in the process,” Swartz wrote.

“The Lakers would still have first-round picks in 2029 and 2031 to try to fill in the roster around their stars. Trading George isn’t the Clippers’ first choice (especially not to the Lakers), but it would be far better than seeing the nine-time All-Star leave in free agency with nothing in return.”

The broad strokes of this proposed deal would see George and P.J. Tucker head to the Lakers, while Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, D’Angelo Russell, Jarred Vanderbilt and either a 2024 or 2025 first-round pick would be returned to the Clippers.

Obviously there are a lot of moving parts at work here, but it could prove to be a win-win for both sides.

Will the Clippers and Lakers ultimately be able to agree on a fair deal centering around George? Time will tell.
