The Angels and Tigers will play a double-header, while the remaining 3 games are all division rival matchups. This smaller slate is calm before a storm before getting right back to a busy weekend that will likely foreshadow what the trade deadline will look like next week.

Los Angeles Angels -1.5 over Detroit Tigers (Game 2) (+140)

This pick is for Game 2 of the double-header. So if the Angels -1.5 at +140 looks appealing to you, as well, make sure you are selecting game 2 between these teams. Entering play, the Angels are enjoying a much-needed strong week. The Angels have won 6 out of their last 7 games, they have declared that Shohei Ohtani indeed will not be traded and further announced intentions to actually be buyers at the trade deadline. If a week ago they were open to being sellers, there is now a belief in that clubhouse and organization as a whole that they can make a run. If they are going to do so, they have to beat teams like the Tigers.

The Tigers enter Thursday 6 games back of the Angels with a record of 46-55 this season. They have lost 8 out of their last 12 games at home and lost the first game of this series on Tuesday. Los Angeles has had Detroit’s number specifically over the years and has won 10 out of the last 14 head-to-head against Detroit. Given the current form and overall strength of each team, Thursday looks to bring more of the same. The Angels are the better team that is also playing well and has a great feeling in their clubhouse right now. They should be able to pour it on.

Cleveland Guardians ML over Chicago White Sox and Over 8.5 (+275)

The White Sox are just going through it. They were treading water in the division for about half of the season but now find themselves 21 Games under .500, 4th in the AL Central and sitting in the 3rd to bottom spot in the AL standings. The White Sox are beginning to sell assets, as well; they just dealt Lucas Giolito to the aforementioned “buying” Angels. More White Sox players are expected to be dealt this weekend, too. All of that is to say that it almost does not matter who this Chicago team plays right now; it is a good fade — let alone against this Guardians team that is 6-3 in their last 9 Games.

In addition to the Guardians being on a roll right now, so too is the over. The total has gone over in 7 out of Cleveland’s last 10 games and in 6 out of its last 7 on the road. The over has also hit in 4 out of Chicago’s last 5 games entering Thursday. Although the under has been more prominent this season for both teams, in their respective last 10 games the over is 13-7 combined in those 20. In the past 2 weeks, both the Guardians and White Sox have shown volatility in the form of either scoring runs in bunches or allowing runs in abundance. That recipe makes for a high total.
