McCowan’s All-Round Performance Draws McGregor Comparisons After Celtic Win
Luke McCowan showed his versatility with a performance reminiscent of Celtic captain Callum McGregor, who was rested for tonight’s 2-0 win.
McCowan who has been somewhat mislabelled as only an attacking midfielder, showed that he has the all round skillset to deputise in McGregor’s absence.
In another impressive performance, he proved his ability to play a deeper role by controlling the Game from the midfield and taking shots on goal whenever opportunities came up.
The Scottish midfielder appears to be a bargain signing at around £1 million.
At just 26 years old, his best years are likely ahead of him at Celtic, where McCowan will continue to learn about defensive aspects of his Game, particularly how and when to press the opposition under Brendan Rodgers.
As a lifelong Celtic fan, he is living the dream of many supporters.
When called upon from the bench, he demonstrated an elite mentality, and after being rewarded with back-to-back starts against Motherwell and Dundee, he hardly put a foot wrong.
Time will tell if McCowan can one day fill McGregor’s shoes, but comparisons between the two are there to be seen, with the Celtic captain starting further up the pitch and moving to a more defensive role later in his career.
