The Toronto Maple Leafs look to win their fourth in a row tonight, following a 6-2 win over the Kings on Wednesday, where the captain Auston Matthews erupted for a goal and two assists after being held off the scoresheet completely through the first three games of the year.

Matthews has a tendency to score in bunches, which is why I think he nets another goal tonight.

The three-time Rocket Richard Trophy winner only has the one goal on the year, despite firing 19 pucks on net, five of which were considered high-danger shots, according to NHL Edge. Considering the New York Rangers are giving up 30 shots on goal per Game and rank 28th in high-danger chances given up to their opponent, there should be ample opportunity for the world's best goalscorer to get some quality looks tonight.

Matthews has also tormented the Rangers in his career, with nine goals and 21 points in 21 games. He registered at least one point in all three meetings between the two clubs last season, with four goals and seven total points.

The other trend that gives me faith in Matthews scoring tonight is his history against New York’s projected starting goaltender, Igor Shesterkin. Some would suggest he’s the best goalie in the world, but the Leafs captain has his number with six goals in nine games against him — more than anyone else on the Maple Leafs.

On top of the Matthews goal, I am looking at the Blueshirts to cover the puck line at +1.5. This game could go either way with how Shesterkin has played early in the season, but I'm expecting a tight game that's settled by one goal. That’s been the case in three of the last five meetings between these two squads, with New York also 3-1 on the puck line so far this year.

The total is currently 6, shaded to the Over, but I'm going to give us a slight hook advantage and go Over the alternate total of 5.5 goals. Both of these teams can score — the Rangers lead the NHL with an average of five goals per game, while the Leafs have scored at least four goals in each of their last three contests.
