England manager Gareth Southgate has emerged as a potential replacement for Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, a report has revealed.

With Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS now firmly installed at Old Trafford, the new minority owners have been tipped to part ways with Ten Hag before the start of next season as they look to shape the team in their vision.

ESPN insist no decision has been made on Ten Hag's future at this point but INEOS are exploring all the options available to them and Southgate has emerged as a possible candidate for the job.

Southgate, who has worked with INEOS director of sport Sir Dave Brailsford and United's top sporting director target Dan Ashworth in the past, is under contract with England until the end of 2024, with a decision on his future likely to be made after this summer's European Championship.

The 53-year-old has not worked in club Football since being sacked by Middlesbrough in 2009 but has previously insisted his experiences with England have prepared him for any possible job in the future.

"I was 35 years old when I managed in the Premier League and we finished 12th and 13th," he told Sky Sports of his time with Middlesbrough. "I knew nothing like what I know now. There isn't a job in world Football that would intimidate or daunt you, having lived this one.

"I remember talking to Jose [Mourinho] when he was at Man Utd and he said to me: 'When you've done the role you're in now you'll be able to do anything really'. I thought that was probably right, but seven years into it it's definitely right. I'm confident in this role and whatever might be in the future.

"Of course, I'm not going to be here for 20/30 years and I don't know what the future will be. I'm very calm about that, but I'm not worried about what that might be."

Also on United's managerial radar are Brighton's Roberto De Zerbi and Brentford's Thomas Frank, but the Red Devils are understood to have an extensive list of potential targets if they do decide to part ways with Ten Hag.

Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Barcelona are all already looking for new managers this summer and so United officials are aware they cannot afford to be caught out if they find themselves needing to fill a vacancy in the dugout.
