Man City's best and worst players in crushing Champions League defeat to Real Madrid
Manchester City's dream of retaining their Champions League trophy came crashing down on Wednesday with a penalty shoot-out defeat to Real Madrid.
It was a harsh result for Pep Guardiola's side to take as they spent most of the game on top, only for Madrid's impenetrable defence to steer them through to penalties, where Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic saw their efforts saved.
Here's how the City players fared in 90min's player ratings.
Man City's best player vs Real Madrid
Kevin De Bruyne - 7/10
For large parts of the Game, it seemed like Kevin De Bruyne was lacking something in the final third. His desire to get forwards was relentless but, for whatever reason, his passes weren't landing like they usually do.
As City came charging forwards in the second half, De Bruyne started to cook. His passes were crisper but the main difference came in front of goal, with the Belgian maestro netting the equaliser and coming close to a second.
Honourable mention
Rodri - 7/10
Rodri made a slow start to the Game and was caught too high in midfield as Madrid came flying forwards, but when the tone of the match changed after the break, he was everywhere.
Some typically excellent challenges and intelligent passing kept City coming forward time and time again. The pressure was relentless at times and that was largely down to Rodri's work in midfield.
Man City's worst player vs Real Madrid
Erling Haaland - 4/10
He wasn't as anonymous as last week, but this was another of those Games in which Erling Haaland seemed to float around with very little purpose.
Clearly trying to target Nacho Fernandez instead of Antonio Rudiger this time, Haaland had a few early glimpses of goal and even saw a header come back off the bar, but that was pretty much it, and the sight of him glued to the bench in extra-time told a story on its own.
Dishonourable mention
Kyle Walker - 5/10
Was he fully fit? There were questions about Kyle Walker heading into the Game and those doubts lingered with each passing minute he spent on the field.
He looked sluggish in the opening stages and was guilty of slipping out of shape and playing Rodrygo onside for the opening goal.
