The Los Angeles Lakers are all but guaranteed to select Bronny James in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft.

Many are skeptical of the youngster’s skillset, and the general consensus seems to be that L.A. is only going to take him to appease LeBron James.

Between that, the team’s numerous disappointments over the past few seasons, and the Boston Celtics’ recent championship – Lakers legends are pretty worked up.

One in particular, James Worthy, recently took aim at Lakers brass for what he perceives to be a series of bad decisions.

“They did it right,” Worthy said of the Celtics. “They took their time. They waited, while we were trading (Brandon) Ingram, (Julius) Randle, (Kentavious Caldwell) Pope gone, brotha up in Sacramento (Malik) Monk gone…

“And then we weren’t getting anything for it, (Russell) Westbrook gone. The ink will lead back to the problem.”

Worthy then trained his fire on Bronny.

“Well he’s the greatest young player ever right now, Bronny, that’s what I’m gonna say,” Worthy said sarcastically.

The Lakers are currently linked to at least one blockbuster trade, but clearly that isn’t appeasing anyone.

This is a franchise associated with winning championships – and they seem pretty far away from that goal at the moment.

Figuring out the optimal way to secure Bronny in the 2024 NBA Draft won’t change that.

Will Worthy’s criticism of the franchise ultimately make anyone within the Lakers’ front office rethink their priorities? Time will tell.
