Klopp calls reporter “ignorant” for jokes about Liverpool kickoff time
Amazon Prime Video presenter Marcus Buckland made the mistake of joking about Liverpool’s 12:30 p.m. kickoff time against Crystal Palace to Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp’s face. As the early kickoff times on Saturdays after Wednesday night Games are something Klopp has often complained about, he seemed to be a bit sensitive to the comment.
After winning 2-0 against Sheffield United, Klopp was in a great mood while speaking in the interview. That is, until Buckland joked that the Game Saturday is at his “favorite kickoff time”, to which Klopp’s face visibly changed.
“That’s really brave to make a joke about that,” Klopp replied. “We go home, I don’t know exactly what time we will get home, we will arrive, maybe 1am or 2am tonight and then play again. We have two sessions. It is fine to recover and then we go again. Crystal Palace play tonight as well so it is really fine. I realize you don’t understand it as well and you work in Football so why should I explain it again. If you make a joke out of that you are ignorant.”
Buckland apologized and said he doesn’t mean to be disrespectful, but Klopp told him, “you were already”. He said, “all good, you can say what you want. I can’t say what I want because that would be really different.”
