Karl-Anthony Towns is one of the NBA’s more polarizing basketball players. For a long time he was seen as a potential franchise star, but repeated failures with the Minnesota Timberwolves tarnished that perspective a bit.

Over the past few years, thanks to the rise of Anthony Edwards, Towns has seen his reputation change a bit. Now he is viewed as a really strong No. 2 option, and as a result, the Wolves have turned into one of the best teams in the Western Conference.

Last year, Towns went viral over his ‘weird’ video with good friend, Devin Booker. Many wondered if he and Edwards had a similarly ‘weird’ relationship.

This week, during an appearance on Paul George’s podcast, Towns got brutally honest about where the relationship between he and Edwards stands.

“I feel it’s weird that the media tries to make it seem like I don’t want Ant to succeed,” Towns said.

“I’m the biggest Ant cheerleader I can be, the biggest fan. I want to see him win, I want to see him grow to be the face of the NBA, I want to see him do things that has never been done before. I want to see that.

“We just want to see each other win, like, big bro and little bro. More than even me. I love when I see him on a commercial and stuff… I’m texting him when I see a commercial like ‘Oh my god’…

“We was in Rome, me and wifey, and we were just having our vacation. I saw someone walking down the street with an Anthony Edwards jersey, I ran that boy down, and I said ‘Yo, that jersey is fire’. He looked at me like ‘Karl?’… Took my phone out, looked like a tourist, taking a photo, man gave me a thumbs up and all. I sent it to Ant.”

Big picture – the Timberwolves looked incredible last season. And given how young they are, it feels like the sky is the limit for them going forward. Will Towns and Edwards be able to lead Minnesota deep into the Western Conference playoffs in 2024-25? Time will tell.
