The United States’ women’s basketball team took the floor this week for the opening game of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Ultimately the American side easily beat Japan 102-76, but that isn’t what captured worldwide attention during the outing.

Rather, what folks at home couldn’t stop talking about in the aftermath was the sign a Japanese fan held up prior to tipoff.

The sign largely speaks for itself:

Caitlin Clark, of course, is the WNBA’s star rookie who was kept off Team USA for reasons that aren’t quite clear.

Over the past few months Clark has been brutalized by some of the bullies in the WNBA for mostly racial reasons. Some have even made the case that she is the most racially persecuted athlete in American sports since Jackie Robinson.

Either way, regardless of how anyone feels about Clark, it is clear that the Americans did not in fact need her to beat Japan.

Team USA’s victory over Japan was their 56th in a row at the Olympic level.
