Is Ohio State star wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. going to join the Arizona Cardinals?
Even in high school, it was clear that the up-and-coming pass catcher was something special. To that end, it was no surprise that the four-star prospect held the rank of 14th best receiver recruit in the nation.
Marvin Harrison Jr. wants to be a Cardinal
Just last year, the Arizona Cardinals selected a player out of Ohio State in the form of Paris Johnson Jr., an offensive tackle who entered the Buckeyes’ program as a 5-star recruit Last year. Now, it seems that the former No. 6 overall pick may be joined by an alumni. That is, of course, if Marvin Harrison Jr. gets what he appears to be asking for. , the Cardinals will once again take a former Buckeye in the first round this year.
Speaking during an appearance on Cardinals Corner, Johnson shared a bit of the conversation he himself had with Harrison shortly after he was selected by the Cardinals last year. “I literally went to Marvin and was like, ‘Dude, you know you’re a Cardinal, right?’” Johnson recalled. “I knew he was going to be a Cardinal because I saw what happened with [DeAndre Hopkins]. I’m like, the Cardinals are probably going to want another 6-4 receiver.” At that point, Johnson gave Cardinals fans a treat, speaking directly to Harrison’s response: “He said he wanted to be a Cardinal,” Johnson said.
Now, as much as this news will surely turn heads, it’s not entirely surprising. For starters, the Cardinals have a sensational quarterback in Kyler Murray. Truthfully, were it not for an ACL tear that derailed his campaign, we would likely have seen another Pro Bowl-worthy showing from the 26-year-old. As for Harrison, the No. 1 receiver spot looks almost guaranteed given that the Cardinals opted not to re-sign Marquise Brown during free agency.
Regarding numbers, Harrison’s most recent season was played alongside first-time starting quarterback Kyle McCord. In total, Harrison caught 67 passes for 1,211 yards and 14 touchdowns, an effort that saw him win the 2023 Fred Biletnikoff Award, which recognizes college football’s top receiver. Where the Cardinals are concerned, the team currently holds the fourth pick in the upcoming Draft, with the Bears, Commanders, and Patriots picking ahead of them. On the other hand, each of those teams is expected to go with a quarterback which opens the door for the Buckeye to become a Cardinal. Watch this space.
