Celtic were plagued by injuries in the season gone by. Throughout the campaign, it always felt as though there was an issue with at least one player.

Things got so bad Brendan Rodgers had to call upon Mikey Johnston for a run of starts, with fourth-choice centre-half Stephen Welsh even getting the nod for a key Glasgow derby at New Year. Alexandro Bernabei was also handed a fair few opportunities after the winter break.

The team was down to its bare bones at certain junctures, and only a few players remained constant throughout the season.

Indeed, in 2023/24, Celtic played 50 comPetitive Games, winning 35, losing eight, and drawing seven. The only man to have played in every single one of those matches for the Hoops is Kyogo Furuhashi.

Previously, the Japanese striker has struggled with several injury issues, most notably involving his shoulder.

Despite this, the 29-year-old remained ever-reliable in the campaign gone by. While it wasn’t his best in terms of scoring (he bagged only 19 in all comPetitions), Kyogo achieved something none of his teaMMAtes did, and that is to have played every Game.

There have been doubts over his future this summer and suggestions that he may move elsewhere, but one cannot understate how crucial he is for the champions, even if he is simply one of few who can keep constant fitness.

Losing Kyogo would be a colossal blow, but at the minute, it doesn’t look entirely likely.
