How much prize money did Hideki Matsuyama win at The Genesis Invitational?
The Genesis Invitational, hosted by Tiger Woods, has crowned its champion. The 2024 edition of the event saw Hideki Matsuyama emerge victorious among a field of 70 Golfers. Woods and Jordan Spieth exited the tournament halfway through because of flu-like symptoms. Matsuyama was able to secure the win with a final round of 9 under 62, beating out Will Zalatoris and Luke List, who were tied at T2. He also set a record for the lowest final round by a PGA Tour winner at Riviera, beating Doug Tewell’s record of 63 in 1986.
Matsuyama finished with a total score of 267 (-17), three strokes ahead of the runners-up. He took home a winner’s cut of $4 million from the total prize pool of $20 million. This was his ninth victory on the PGA Tour, the last of which came in 2022 at the Sony Open in Hawaii.
Over the four days of play, Matsuyama recorded 20 birdies, nine of which came in the final round. He also scored an eagle on Friday, along with three bogeys and a double bogey. His impressive score propelled him from T6 to T1, securing his victory before Zalatoris or List finished their rounds for the final day.
By winning the third signature event on the men’s circuit, Matsuyama is currently projected to be placed third on the 2024 FedEx Cup standings. His win will earn him a total of 700 points, adding to the 125.035 he gained over five tournaments, bringing his total to 825.035 points and jumping him up 54 places.
Matsuyama’s final day score of 62 was just one stroke more than his career low of 61, which he achieved in the fourth round of the 2017 World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational.
