Alcaraz to miss Rome, where will the Spaniard play next?

Following his elimination from the Madrid Open, Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz has confirmed that he will not play the Rome Masters 1000 (May 8-19) due ongoing muscular issues that have plagued the 20-year-old for the past month.

Alcaraz, who turns 21 this Sunday, confirmed the news this Friday through his social media platforms after confessing in the press conference after his defeat against Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals of the Madrid Open that he had been suffering from muscular discomforts in his forearm that already made him give up the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 and the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell in April. “I hadn’t played a match like this for a long time and I woke up with stiffness all over my body. The forearm was there, there, and it has taken its toll on me a little bit,” said Alcaraz.

“I felt pain after playing in Madrid, discomfort in my arm. Today I did some tests and I have a muscle edema, a consequence of my last injury. Unfortunately I won’t be able to play in Rome. I need rest to recover and to be able to play without pain at 100%,” Alcaraz said on Instragam and X.

As a consequence, Alcaraz will not be able to play in the last big test on clay before Roland Garros (26 May-9 June), where the Spaniard hopes to play at, fully recovered from this forearm injury.
