How much money will Pegula or Sabalenka get for winning the 2024 US Open?
Jessica Pegula or Aryna Sabalenka will receive a cheque for well over $3 million as winner of today’s 2024 US Open women’s singles final.
ComPeting in her first ever Grand Slam final, No. 6 seed Pegula will be bidding to become the second straight American to win the US Open women’s singles tournament, after Coco Gauff was victorious at Flushing Meadows a year ago.
Having reached her second successive US Open final, meanwhile, the second-seeded Sabalenka is aiming to banish the memories of her three-set defeat to Gauff 12 months ago.
Like Pegula, the Belarusian has never won the the US Open.
How much prize money does the 2024 US Open women’s champion get?
The winner of this year’s US Open’s women’s singles title will receive $3.6 million in prize money, up 20% from the $3 million paid to Gauff in 2023. The runner-up at Arthur Ashe Stadium will earn $1.8 million, which also represents a one-fifth increase on the $1.5 million given to Sabalenka last year.
The same amounts will be paid to the champion and runner-up in tomorrow’s men’s singles final, which sees the US’s Taylor Fritz take on Italy’s Jannik Sinner.
Half a century of pay parity
The US Open was the first of the four Grand Slam Tennis events to introduce equal prize money for its men’s and women’s participants, adopting the policy back in 1973.
The Australian Open followed suit in 1984, only to go back to paying men more in 1996. However, the tournament reversed this move five years later. The French Open began implementing equal pay in 2006, and Wimbledon introduced prize-money parity the following year.

Held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York City, the 2024 US Open women’s singles final will be played today, Saturday September 7, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. ET/1:00 p.m. PT. Viewers in the US will be able to watch the final on ESPN, ESPN+ and ESPN Deportes.
