How much is Joel Embiid’s contract worth? Salary details for 76ers player
Joel Embiid has agreed a deal with the Philadelphia 76ers worth over $300 million, according to reports stateside.
People with knowledge of the deal have told The Athletic “the Philadelphia 76ers and star center Joel Embiid agreed to a max extension deal, expanding his contract to a new total of five years with a value of $301 million.”
As well as putting the player’s contract into the top three richest totals in the History of the NBA, the new agreement also reportedly includes a player option in 2028-29.
Embiid negotiated his own deal
Shams Charania, a senior insider, broke the story, writing “JUST IN: Joel Embiid says he is signing a contract extension with the Philadelphia 76ers. The one-time NBA MVP will sign a three-year, $193 million maximum extension with the 76ers, with a player option in 2028-2029″ on his Twitter page.
ESPN moved to confirm the news, with Ramona Shelburne also tweeting along the same lines, adding that Embiid’s career earnings “will swell to $514.8 million with the new agreement, fourth highest in NBA history, trailing only LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Paul George.” She also adds that Embiid negotiated the contract himself.
This news comes, perhaps, as only a slight surprise: the 76ers have embarked on a spending spree recently, handing out huge contracts in order to tie down who they see as their top stars. Along with Embiid, Paul George and Tyreese Maxey are on simply eye-watering sums of money for the foreseeable future.
The NBA preseason is right around the corner and the 76ers will go up against the Minnesota Timberwolves, who impressed in the previous campaign, beating the Denver Nuggets in the Conference semifinals before going toe-to-toe against the Dallas Mavericks, ultimately losing 4-1.
They’ll also play the Hawks, the Nets and the Celtics, the team that won their record 18th title in 2023. Having finished the regular season with the best record in the country, 64–18, the challenge for the 76ers simply cannot be greater. However, with their newly polished players on huge deals, they’ll be hoping to make their mark right at the top of the NBA.
