How many times has Pep Guardiola won the Champions League?

Pep Guardiola is one of the greatest managers Football has ever seen and he has the trophy cabinet to back it up.

Over his time with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City, the Catalan coach and former midfielder has consistently picked up silverware season after season no matter the quality of opposition.

One competition he hasn't always seen eye to eye with, however, is the Champions League. After winning Europe's premier club competition twice with Barcelona, Guardiola suffered a lengthy drought in the UCL that was finally ended when Manchester City beat Inter in the 2023 final.

Barcelona - 2008/09

The Barça team of 2008/09 had already won La Liga and the Copa del Rey by the time the Champions League final rolled around and finished a historic treble by downing Manchester United in Rome.

The Blaugrana had to come through a third qualifying round tie with Wisla Krakow before the group stage - a 4-0 win at home made the 1-0 defeat in Poland purely academic.

Barça eased through Group C which contained Sporting CP, Shakhtar Donetsk and Basel, losing on the final day when their position of first had already been confirmed.

Thierry Henry's strike at Lyon meant Barça returned from the first leg of their last 16 with a 1-1 draw before the Frenchman scored twice more in a 5-2 home win.

The quarter final with Bayern Munich was wrapped up in the first half of the first leg as Barça charged into a 4-0 lead before finishing the job in Bavaria with a 1-1 draw.

Guardiola's side were the beneficiaries of some dodgy officiating in the semi finals against Chelsea, having a number of strong penalty appeals go their way before Andres Iniesta's 93rd-minute equaliser took Barça into the final on away goals.

Barça then saw off Man Utd in the final as Samuel Eto'o struck early on before Lionel Messi's header secured the 2-0 win.

Barcelona - 2010/11

This is the Barça team Guardiola is most synonymous with, one which is widely regarded as the club's greatest ever lineup.

With the likes of Messi, Iniesta, Xavi, David Villa, Pedro and Dani Alves in their squad to name just a few, the Catalans were heavy favourites throughout 2010/11 and had few difficulties claiming first place in Group D.

Copenhagen, Rubin Kazan and Panathinaikos provided the opposition as Barça rattled in 14 goals and conceded just three in six group Games before taking on Arsenal in the last 16.

Group D

A momentous night at the Emirates gave the Gunners a stunning 2-1 win and real hope of making the quarter finals. However, Barça were just too strong for the Premier League side, who had Robin van Persie sent off before the hour mark - Xavi and Messi then scored the goals to take the Camp Nou side through.

A big 5-1 home triumph against Shakhtar Donetsk was backed up by a 1-0 away win to seal a 6-1 aggregate victory in the quarter finals, setting up two Clasicos in the semis against Real Madrid.

Los Blancos defender Pepe's high challenge on Alves gave Barça a player advantage which resulted in Messi scoring twice late on, including a wonderful solo effort.

Real were spirited in the return leg but couldn't overturn the scoreline which ended 3-1 across the two legs.

The gap between Barça and other elite sides in Europe was shown in the final at Wembley. Wayne Rooney did equalise soon after Pedro's opener, but goals from Messi and Villa saw Barça claim their fourth Champions League crown.

Manchester City - 2022/23

In the truncated 2022/23 season, Manchester City set their stall out quickly in Europe with a hefty 4-0 win at eventual Europa League winners Sevilla before edging past Borussia Dortmund in their second outing.

Copenhagen were smashed 5-0 but then held City to a goalless draw back in Denmark. City could only muster the same result in their trip to Dortmund before rounding off the group stage with a comfortable win over Sevilla at the Etihad.

RB Leipzig's brave resistance in the first leg of their last 16 was swiftly broken in the second Game which City won 7-0, with Erling Haaland contributing five goals.

A 3-0 pumping was handed to Thomas Tuchel's Bayern Munich in the quarter finals, earning Guardiola some redemption for City's 2021 UCL final loss to Chelsea. A 1-1 draw in Bavaria set up a clash with holders Real Madrid.

City again drew 1-1 away from home before blowing Los Blancos away back at the Etihad in one of the most complete team performances the Champions League has ever seen.

That win made them strong favourites for their first title in the competition when they faced Inter in the final.

Rodri's goal settled that tie in Istanbul, ending Guardiola's 12-year wait for another European title.
