Horse Racing picks for Pimlico race track on Friday, May 19: Rattle N Roll can shake them up

12:01 pm ET Pimlico (Race 2) – Ruggs 5/2 (2-star play)

The four-year-old colt Ruggs put a couple of below-par performances behind him when finishing 3rd in a 6-furlong allowance optional claimer at Oaklawn Park at the start of last month. He followed that with a 2nd-place finish in a similar contest on a good main track at the same venue.

He delivered a triple-digit speed figure when last in action and looks capable of delivering a third career success with Tyler Gaffalione booked to ride. 

1:02 pm ET Pimlico (Race 4) – Interstatedaydream 1/1 (3-star play)

The daughter of Classic Empire has shown good form at a higher level in recent times, including when registering a Grade 3 victory in the Indiana Oaks over an extended mile at Indiana Downs in July last year.

The 4-year-old has performed well in defeat in 3 subsequent starts, including when 4th in a Grade 3 over the same trip at Keeneland last month. She drops to Listed company today and can provide trainer Brad Cox with a winner.

2:04 pm ET Pimlico (Race 6) – Royal Whisper 2/1 (2-star play)

Royal Whisper was the impressive 8 1/4-length winner of a 6-furlong maiden event when debuting at Pimlico just over a year ago. The 4-year-old has placed 2nd on both her subsequent starts, with the most recent of those being a 2 3/4-lengths 2nd in a 5.5-furlong allowance at Laurel last month.

Returning from an absence that day, she is expected to appreciate the return to 6 furlongs she gets today and looks capable of scoring for handler Brittany Russell, who boasts an impressive 58% strike-rate (7/12) at this meeting. 

3:05 pm ET Pimlico (Race 8) – Fort Warren 7/5 (2-star play)

Fort Warren registered an all-the-way victory when debuting in a 6.5-furlong maiden special weight at Santa Anita at the end of October. Successful by half-a-length that day, he failed to shine when a well-held 3rd of 4 over 7 furlongs in the Grade 2 San Vicente Stakes at the same venue in January.

The pick has missed 2 subsequent stakes engagements and the Curlin colt, who has shown up well in the mornings in recent weeks, is selected to score.  

5:10 pm ET Pimlico (Race 12) – Rattle N Roll 9/5 (2-star play)

The 4-year-old Rattle N Roll has registered stakes victories in 3 of his last 5 starts. Those successes include 2 Graded triumphs, including when taking out the Grade 2 Ben Ali Stakes over a mile and 3/16ths at Keeneland just under a month ago.

The slightly shorter distance today is no issue as he has won over this trip in a minor stakes contest in August last year and he can score racing from off the pace.
