The FPL Gameweek 33 captaincy dilemma is another big one, with favourable fixtures for title challengers Manchester City and Liverpool. So who should we be considering for the armband?
In conjunction with Fantasy Football Hub's powerful AI Points Predictions tool, here are the top captain picks for FPL Gameweek 33.
Erling Haaland
- Fixture: Luton Town (H); Predicted Points: 8.7
It's been a quieter scoring period for Manchester City's Erling Haaland in 2024, with just five league goals, but encouragingly four of those have come at the Etihad. He's certainly due a haul, having scored once from three big chances in his last two games.
He has the pedigree in this fixture against Luton Town, having netted five goals against them in the FA Cup in late February, a fixture which ended 6-2 to City. Luton's defensive form hasn't improved since, failing to keep a clean sheet on the road all season.
Mohamed Salah
- Fixture: Crystal Palace (H); Predicted Points: 8.2
Liverpool's Mohamed Salah once again provides a very credible captain alternative to Haaland, having had a leading 21 shots on goal in the last three gameweeks. However, he's certainly underperformed with only two goals from five big chances in this spell.
Salah scored 13 points in the reverse fixture against Crystal Palace, with a goal and an assist in the 2-1 win. The Eagles have some key injuries in defensive areas going into this game, which has contributed to them conceding seven goals in the last four matches.
Son Heung-min
- Fixture: Newcastle United (A); Predicted Points: 6.4
Tottenham captain Son Heung-min continues to star as a central striker, despite being listed as a midfielder in the Game. He was the Player of the Week for the reverse fixture against Newcastle, with one goal and two assists netting him 17 points in a 4-1 win.
Son is the only captain pick this week not to have been involved in midweek European action, although Spurs were defeated 6-1 in this fixture last season. Newcastle come into this game with one clean sheet in their last four, conceding seven goals in that period.
