Exes John Mayer and Katy Perry Spotted Chatting in Rare Reunion at Sabrina Carpenter Concert

Katy Perry reconnected with a ~legendary lover~ from her past at the Sabrina Carpenter concert.

The “Roar” singer, 40, was spotted chatting with ex John Mayer at the pop star’s Short n’ Sweet Tour stop at the Kia Forum in L.A. on Sunday, November 17, as seen in video footage shared by a fan on X. The clip showed Katy turned around in her seat as she appeared to be catching up with John, 47, who leaned forward in his seat to talk to her.

“Katy perry and john mayer interaction wasn’t on my 2024 bingo card,” the fan captioned their post.

Earlier in the evening, Katy and John were photographed separately outside the venue, according to TMZ.

Their reunion came after Katy joked about her romance with John on American Idol in 2022.

The musicians dated on and off from 2012 to 2015 after previously flirting with each other online in 2009. Katy and John became pen pals for a while before they were official — this aspect of their relationship inspired her song “Legendary Lovers” off her 2013 Prism album.

“I actually wrote it in an email one time, and after I wrote it I looked — we had a long courtship before anything was [public], just writing letters to each other,” she told Entertainment Weekly in October 2013.

In September 2013, John and Katy collaborated on his song “Who You Love” from his Paradise Valley album. He also played guitar on Katy’s “It Takes Two,” which appeared on Prism.

The “New Light” hitmaker and the “Teenage Dream” songstress were notoriously on and off, with Katy once telling Vogue in 2013, “I was madly in love with him. I still am madly in love with him. All I can say about that relationship is that he’s got a beautiful mind. Beautiful mind, tortured soul. I do have to figure out why I am attracted to these broken birds.”

The former couple split for good in summer 2015, multiple outlets reported at the time. However, John and Katy chose to stay quiet about their final breakup. She moved on with Orlando Bloom in 2016, and the pair are now engaged with a 4-year-old daughter named Daisy Dove.

Meanwhile, John — who has been romantically linked to Taylor Swift, Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Aniston and more stars — said in January that he also wants to tie the knot someday.

“People don’t think I want to be married. I absolutely want to be married,” he told Kelly Rizzo on her “Comfort Food” podcast. “You know the secret, which is that I’m actually fairly well-adjusted. And I so badly want to get married if only for my wife to just know in her heart, like, ‘John will know what to do.'”

John continued, “I just think that level of being relied on is the hottest thing in the world to me. ‘If my husband was here, he would know what to do. Call John. Call my husband.’ You’re a full grown-up when this is your romantic fantasy. You’re a fully fledged grown-up.”
