With the 2024 European Championships looming on the horizon, the Footballing focus shifts towards the international scene.

In Germany, Celtic will be represented by a fair few players with captain Callum McGregor, James Forrest, Greg Taylor, and Anthony Ralston all in Steve Clarke’s provisional squad for the tournament.

Matt O’Riley surprisingly didn’t get called up by Denmark, but perhaps that might bode well for the Scottish champions.

The limelight will be taken off the attacking midfielder this summer, with the Hoops’ Scots coming into focus.

Clarke’s team take on hosts Germany in the Euros opener a week on Friday and for said clash, former national team right-back Stephen O’Donnell has made a noteworthy prediction.

Indeed, the Motherwell man backs Ralston to get the nod for the Munich showdown.

He said: (PLZ Soccer) “If everyone is fit that’s in the squad, I think it’ll be Ralston at right-back.”

Injuries to some key players are not aiding Scotland ahead of the Euros, but in defence, they have provided an almighty opportunity to Ralston.

The only other comPetitor he has for his spot is Ross McCrorie, and he isn’t even a natural right-back.

The 25-year-old is the leading candidate to make up for the absences of Aaron Hickey and Nathan Patterson, and one cannot say he doesn’t deserve the opportunity.
