Ex Celtic Striker Set For Major International Gig
In a rather surprising development, former Celtic winger Craig Bellamy is set to become the new manager of Wales.
Now 44, the attacker spent a brief few months in Glasgow towards the end of the 2004/05 campaign. He scored nine goals and assisted another in 14 appearances as he left an impactful mark on loan from Newcastle.
After he retired in 2014, Bellamy moved into coaching. He spent time with Cardiff before going on to be Vincent Kompany’s assistant at Anderlecht and then Burnley, where he currently is.
Now, though, according to the BBC, Bellamy is set to take on his first managerial role, which will see him take charge of Wales.
Rob Page was overseeing the national team since 2020 until a few dismal results earlier this summer caused him to be sacked. A goalless draw with Gibraltar and a 4-0 thumping off Slovakia was enough for the FAW to bag the 49-year-old.
Bellamy will resultantly take over in what is somewhat of a risky appointment given his lack of managerial experience. Here’s hoping he flourishes.
