Minnesota Lynx vs. Phoenix Mercury
August 28, 2024 10:00 pm EDT

The WNBA presents a matchup between the Minnesota Lynx and Phoenix Mercury. Let’s take a look at this Game from a Draftkings perspective.

Before we dive into the Minnesota Lynx vs. Phoenix Mercury game let’s review the rules for the Draftkings single game showdown contest.

Draftkings Single Game Showdown Contest Rules

You have $50,000 to utilize on five players from either team. However, one of those players will be designated as your team captain. The captain accumulates 1.5 times the standard fantasy points. Additionally, the captain is 1.5 times the standard cost of the flex position.

The remaining four players in your lineup will receive the standard fantasy points. Having stated that, it is highly important for you to identify the correct player for your captain position if you hope to win a large field DFS GPP (guaranteed prize pool) showdown contest.

If you have additional questions regarding the rules for the single game showdown contest, I recommend that you check out the Draftkings website for more details.

*I recommend that all readers review the starting lineups for both teams prior to setting your DFS lineup for this one game slate.

Here are my Draftkings picks for tonight’s Minnesota Lynx vs. Phoenix Mercury matchup.

Draftkings WNBA Showdown Picks

Captain-Napheesa Collier, Forward, Minnesota Lynx $11,000

Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier arrives at tonight’s game with the Phoenix Mercury playing exceptional basketball from a statistical perspective. Let’s take a look at Collier’s recent game data to shed light on my previous statement.

In the 25 games that Napheesa Collier has played for the Minnesota Lynx this season, talented Lynx forward Napheesa Collier has averaged an impressive 21.1 points, 9.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 214 steals, and 1.2 blocks a game.

I also like Napheesa Collier’s matchup this evening. Why? Collier draws a Phoenix Mercury team that has struggled on the defensive side of the basketball this season. Through 31 games played in the 2024 WNBA regular season, the Phoenix Mercury are currently ranked ninth in total team defensive rating (104.4), 12th in defensive rebound percentage (68%), and 12th in total opponent second chance points allowed a game (12.6). Clearly, the defensive data just presented tells us that the Phoenix Mercury are not a good defensive basketball team. After all, numbers don’t lie.

It is noteworthy that these two teams faced off two months ago in Minnesota. In that matchup, Lynx forward Napheesa Collier played exceptionally well. Let me be more specific. In the Minnesota Lynx’s 73-60 win over the Phoenix Mercury in June, Lynx forward Napheesa Collier tallied a whopping 23 points, 14 rebounds, two assists, and one block.

In my opinion, selecting the correct captain is of the highest importance if you hope to win a large field GPP (guaranteed prize pool) Draftkings contest. Having stated that, I think that talented Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier is a great play at captain for this one Game WNBA DFS Draftkings slate.

Flex Plays

Kahleah Copper, Guard, Phoenix Mercury $9,400

How important has Phoenix guard Kahleah Copper been to this Phoenix Mercury team this season? Let’s review Kahleah Copper’s recent statistical game data to answer that question.

In the 31 Games that the guard Kahleah Copper has played for the Phoenix Mercury in the 2024 WNBA regular season, Kahleah Copper has averaged a robust 22.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 0.8 steals a Game.

Additional players I like to play well this evening (Draftkings price noted): Natasha Cloud, Guard (Phoenix Mercury) $8,800: Courtney Williams, Guard (Minnesota Lynx) $8,400: Alanna Smith, Forward (Minnesota Lynx) $8,000: Kayla McBride, Guard (Minnesota Lynx) $7,400: Sophie Cunningham, Guard (Phoenix Mercury) $6,000.
