Dodgers - Yankees summary online: stats, scores and highlights | 2024 MLB World Series Game 4 highlights
Yankee bats finally come to life in stunning win
New York roars to life with emphatic win in Game 4
This was real do or die territory for the New York Yankees. They've been beaten in the first three games of the World Series and not just beaten but comprehensively taken apart by the Los Angeles Dodgers. They needed to come alive and boy did they ever.
In the top of the first with the two run home run by Freddie Freeman, you could be forgiven for thinking that it was going to be more of the same. So far this has been Freeman’s Series. As it turned out, Game 4 would belong not to Freddie Freeman in the end but to Anthony Volpe.
While the early going was slow that offensive scoring machine that the Bronx bombers possess slowly ground its gears and came to life, putting up single runs and then leaping out front with a huge Grand Slam by their young shortstop.
Even there they were not safe, as the Los Angeles Dodgers showed what they are made of, just how dangerous they are, clawing back runs and coming to within two, before that same behemoth machinery that is the New York Yankees bats exploded in the seventh inning, scoring five.
Let's not get ahead of ourselves, the Dodgers are still just one game away from a victory parade, but the value of this win in Game 4 for the New York Yankees, for their fans and their own psyche, cannot be understated.
Going into Game 5, the Yankees are now not simply limping into the game having managed to just stay alive in this World Series, but this emphatic win really puts the wind into their sails, giving them a boost that will make all of the early promise of a World Series played in Yankee Stadium become a reality.
Game five will see both the Yankees and their fans possess a swagger, a self-belief, a confidence that has been sorely lacking throughout this World Series. These are the two most legendary teams in the game, longtime rivals facing each other on the biggest stage.
The promise of this World Series was that we would see two of the best standing toe to toe. The first three Games showed none of that. And now perhaps Game 5 will give us what we've all been waiting for.
As much as Dodger fans may have wanted to see a sweep, the reality is that for lovers of the game of baseball a sweep is never good. A one-sided contest contains no joy, no thrill, no excitement. So whichever team you support, whether the Los Angeles Dodgers or the New York Yankees or even if - perhaps especially if - you are a neutral, then you should be thankful that, finally, the excitement is back into the World Series.
GOODBYE!!!
That is going to do it for our live coverage of Game 4 of the 2024 World Series, as the New York Yankees keep their hopes alive to fight another day. We hope that you enjoyed it as much as we did!
We will be back with you for Game 5 tomorrow! Until then, have a great night and God bless!

But if the Yankees find a way to extend the series, it could mark the beginning of an incredible comeback and a legendary chapter in postseason history.

This is what they put on baseballs before MLB games: The surprising substance applied on balls
With the MLB providing a constant supply of new baseballs in games, it may be news to some that new balls aren’t straight from the factory. Just a dab will do you, and you can read it all right here
For the Yankees, Game 4 represents a chance to claw back into the series, but it will demand resilience and breakout performances from their key hitters. New York’s offense needs to shake off a string of missed opportunities and capitalize on any openings that Gil and the bullpen might give them. In their corner, a roaring Yankee Stadium crowd should give them a boost - if they can use it to disrupt the Dodgers’ groove.

The Dodgers are clearly on a mission. Since the start of this series, their bullpen has been nothing short of impenetrable, managing to keep powerhouse hitters like Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton relatively quiet. Manager Dave Roberts has been masterful with his pitching strategy, deploying his top relievers early and putting the Yankees on edge each inning. Tonight, every pitch will be crucial as the Dodgers try to seal their title in front of a fervent New York crowd.

Who is singing the national anthem before Game 4 of the MLB World Series?
In Game 4 against the Yankees, the Dodgers have the chance to seal the 2024 MLB World Series title. Check out which star will kick things off tonight right here
Yankees starter Luis Gil is taking the mound under enormous pressure. A solid showing from him could be the Yankees' lifeline, as they’ve struggled to match the Dodgers’ relentless scoring. Gil’s mission is to shut down the Dodgers’ top of the order, particularly Freeman, who homered in Game 3 and has become a thorn in New York's side. The Yankees’ bullpen might get more than a fair share of action if Boone decides to pull Gil early, a strategy that worked in earlier rounds.

PITCHING
With the Dodgers opting to use a bullpen strategy tonight, the pressure is amplified on the Yankees to keep pace. If Luis Gil has a rough start, Aaron Boone could take the ball out of his hands quickly meaning a bullpen game on both sides of the diamond.
LOS ANGELES DODGERS: BEN CASPARIUS
In tonight's game, the Dodgers put the ball in the hands of right-hander Ben Casparius, who’s emerging as a powerhouse for L.A. this season. This is his first appearance in the World Series after a strong performance in the NLCS against the Mets on October 20, where he pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, allowed two hits, and issued one walk to help clinch Game 6. Casparius, a 25-year-old with a sharp slider and pinpoint control, posted a regular season record of 2-0 with a 2.16 ERA. Tonight, he's expected to set the tone early, with the Dodgers using a bullpen approach to manage the Yankees' high-octane lineup.
NEW YORK YANKEES: LUIS GIL
For the Yankees, right-hander Luis Gil takes the mound. Gil, a leading candidate for the American League Rookie of the Year, turned in a stellar season with a 15-7 record and a 3.50 ERA. He last pitched in Game 4 of the ALCS against Cleveland on October 18, giving up two runs over four innings and keeping his team in the hunt. This season, Gil has shown poise beyond his years, which was clear in his June 9 start against the Dodgers. In that game, he held Los Angeles to three runs over 5.2 innings, ultimately not factoring into the decision as the Yankees pulled off a 6-4 win. Tonight, the Yankees hope Gil’s mix of heat and accuracy will stifle L.A.’s hitters long enough to put runs on the board and swing the momentum in their favor.
WELCOME!!!
Welcome to the Diario AS USA live commentary of Game 4 of the 2024 World Series as the Yankees make their last stand before a Dodgers team that is hunting a clean sweep in front of a hostile Bronx crowd.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are on the brink of clinching their eighth World Series title, taking a commanding 3-0 lead over the New York Yankees after a tense 4-2 victory in Game 3 at Yankee Stadium. One more win tonight could finish the series in a clean sweep, something baseball hasn’t seen in the World Series since the Giants swept the Tigers back in 2012. But this isn’t just any matchup - it’s Dodgers-Yankees, a meeting that carries its own history and heat, especially with the stakes this high.
Facing a 3-0 deficit, the Yankees are in must-win territory, hanging on by a thread as Game 4 opens up under the bright lights of Yankee Stadium. This isn’t the kind of blowout series you might expect when you hear “3-0.” Each game has been a dogfight, but the Dodgers have managed to hold New York’s high-powered offense in check just enough to keep their advantage. With a roster stacked after a massive offseason, New York’s lineup is built to hit. However, the Dodgers' bullpen has been a fortress, keeping sluggers Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Gleyber Torres from doing the damage they’ve shown all season they’re capable of.
For New York, tonight’s starter Luis Gil holds the key to extending the series. If he’s on, as he’s shown he can be at Yankee Stadium this season, the Yankees have a shot.
Meanwhile, Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman, who knocked a two-run homer in Game 3, has been making life difficult for the Yankees' rotation. Freeman’s bat has been essential, especially when combined with Teoscar Hernández, who’s been hitting with laser-like precision. With both Freeman and Hernandez dialed in, the Yankees have their work cut out for them.
With the Yankees’ season on the line, manager Aaron Boone is likely to pull Gil early if he struggles, a strategy that might keep the scoring low. Boone’s quick hook has been effective in the playoffs, bringing in the bullpen to keep games close. For the Dodgers, manager Dave Roberts has found a rhythm in his bullpen management, using his top relievers early to counter New York’s lineup and set the tone.
For the Yankees, a win tonight is the only way to keep the series alive. They need Judge, Stanton, and Torres to deliver in the clutch, something that hasn’t happened much this series. For the Dodgers, one last victory would mark a triumph years in the making, cementing their hold on baseball's biggest prize after coming so close multiple times in recent years.
If the Dodgers pull this one off, it’s champagne time in the Bronx, a cold conclusion to a red-hot series for New York and a triumphant ride home for L.A.
