Did Patrick Mahomes meet Lionel Messi at Arrowhead Stadium?

Very, very few professional athletes will get close to the pinnacle of their Sports. Conversations around the ‘Greatest Of All Time’ are common in sport and the names are almost always the same.

Two men who have elbowed their way into the debate in recent years are soccer star Lionel Messi and Super Bowl champions Patrick Mahomes, both of whom may have a decent claim of GOAT status by the end of their glittering careers. On Saturday Messi’s Inter Miami Travelled to Arrowhead Stadium to take on Sporting Kansas City and he met Chiefs’ quarter-back Mahomes ahead of kick-off.

Mahomes and Messi were seen embracing in the stadium and the quarter-back met with the rest of the Miami squad. Patrick Mahomes is the co-owner of Sporting Kansas City and he clearly wanted to make the visiting team feel welcomed. Sporting KC played at Arrowhead Stadium, home of Kansas City Chiefs, for the first time since 2007. A bumper crowd of more than 70,000 fans turned out for the occasion.

The Chiefs QB became a minority over of Sporting KC in 2020, one of three sporting investments made by the three-time Super Bowl champion. He is also part owner of the Kansas City Royals of MLB and the NWSL side Kansas City Current. He is one of a number of high-profile Sportsman with stakes in MLS teams, such as Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham and Houston Dynamo’s James Harden.
