‘Dead Talents Society’ Leads 61st Golden Horse Nominations
The full list of nominees for the 61st Golden Horse Awards has been officially announced. This year had a record number of submissions with 718 entries in total.
Leading this year’s race is the Taiwanese horror comedy Dead Talents Society with 11 nods. Directed and co-written by John Hsu, Dead Talents Society is set in a world where dying is just the beginning, as ghosts can linger in the mortal realm by comPeting to haunt humans. The film follows a rookie ghost as she navigates the cutthroat world of Celebrity scarers. Hong Kong’s All Shall Be Well, mystery thriller Stranger Eyes, Dead Talents Society, docufiction An Unfinished Film, and LGBTQ drama Bel Ami will comPete in both Best Narrative Feature and Best Director.
Directed by Ray Yeung, All Shall Be Well follows the family fallout surrounding mid-60s lesbian couple Angie and Pat after the sudden death of Pat. As Angie has no legal claim to the estate left behind, disputes soon follow in the wake of the death. In addition to Patra Au Ga-man in All Shall Be Well, who has been nominated for best leading actress, others from Hong Kong nominated include Chung Suet-ying (The Way We Talk) and Sandra Ng Kwan-yue (Love Lies).
Additional films by Hong Kong directors nominated at the Awards are Stuntman and short films Colour Ideology Sampling.mov, Something About Us, Letters from the Imprisoned: Chow Hang Tung, and Father Figure.
Announced before the ceremonies are three prizes including Outstanding Taiwanese FilMMAker of the Year which goes to veteran spray painting artist Li Si-jian, and two Lifetime Achievement Awards which have been given to director Lin Wen-chin, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon actress Cheng Pei-pei.
The 2024 Golden Horse Film Festival will open from November 7 to 24, and the 61st Golden Horse Awards ceremony will be held at the Taipei Pop Music Center on November 23rd. The full list of nominations can be found here. Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks.
