The U.S. Open – the fourth and final major of the Tennis season – is underway and we will already wrap up round 2 of the tournament on Thursday. Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are in action on the men’s side, while Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina and Jessica Pegula take the court in the women’s comPetition.

Let’s take a look at the best bets to be made on the Day 4 schedule, and also be sure to check out my best outright bets on both the men’s and women’s sides. 

Parlay: Arthur Fils ML over Gabriel Diallo and Sebastian Korda ML over Tomas Machac (-116) 

Diallo, a 22-year-old from Canada, is a mere 6-11 at the ATP level in his career and this is only his second main-draw appearance at a major. He has some talent but little to no experience. Fils is even younger (20 years old) but is ranked almost 120 spots higher (24th to 143rd) and is already an ATP 500 tournament champion (on the red clay of Hamburg earlier this summer). The Frenchman should win prevail with relative ease. Meanwhile, Korda won his only previous meeting with Machac and should do the same on Thursday. Although neither player is consistent, the American is a lot more reliable than Machac right now. The Czech was 2-7 in his last 9 matches prior to arriving in New York City. Korda is up to 16th in the world and just won the biggest title of his career in Washington, D.C. He is part of a wave of young (relatively) Americans who has the potential to win a Grand Slam in the future.

Flavio Cobolli -3.5 games over Zizou Bergs (-118)

Bergs did extremely well to book his spot in the second round. The 25-year-old Belgian outlasted Pavel Kotov in a fifth-set tiebreaker, marking just the second Grand Slam in his career at which he has won a match in the main draw. However, playing on stage he has never seen before while also having to recover from a 5-setter is not an ideal situation moving forward. Bergs faces a tough opponent on the other side of the net, too. Cobolli, a 22-year-old from Italy, has been one of the ATP Tour’s breakout stars this season. He has already climbed to #31 in the rankings thanks in part to a runner-up showing earlier this summer in Washington, D.C. (lost to Korda). Even at full strength Bergs would be a sizable underdog; if fatigue is a factor that hurts his chances to an even greater extent.

Xinyu Wang +2.5 games over Yulia Putintseva (-106) 

Somewhat surprisingly, Putintseva and Wang have squared off on 3 previous occasions and Wang has won every time. Putintseva is more established player and much bigger name, which is the real reason why she is the favorite. However, Wang is up to #40 in the rankings at just 22 years old (7 years younger than Putintseva) and soon to make a name for herself. Both women have been playing very well this summer, so this should be a comPetitive contest. From a mental standpoint, it could be difficult for Putintseva to get past her 0-3 record in the head-to-head series. Plus the Kazakh has never been a pillar of mental strength in her career. It wouldn’t be shocking if Wang wins this one outright.
