Dan Hurley Reveals Bronny James’ Role In Lakers Conversations

Dan Hurley decided to spurn the Los Angeles Lakers and return to coaching UConn this past week.

After an extended flirtation with L.A., Hurley opted to go for a third straight National Championship.

One of the more intriguing elements of Hurley’s dance with the Lakers was the prospect of Bronny James playing for him.

This week, during an appearance on Dan Le Batard’s show, Hurley expounded on what role Bronny played in the whole process.

“I really liked Bronny but he was not specifically a part of any particular conversation that I did not see on television,” Hurley said.

That said, Hurley believes that if Bronny had opted to attend UConn, there could have been a lot of synergy there.

“I think we have kind of a unique style of the way we play offense here at UConn,” he continued.

“Our tactics and strategies, I think, are a little bit more unique and I think it has a lot to do with my background, the high school coach, and then my upbringing with my father. And you know, it’s weird, he would have been incredible in our system with the way that we play basketball.”

Hurley didn’t stop there, though.

“Because he’s so athletic, he defends but then he’s like such a smart player and you know, he can shoot, he can pass, he’s got a great feel. (Bronny) could play a couple different guard spots. I really liked Bronny but he was not specifically a part of any particular conversation that I did not see on television.”

It will be interesting to see if Bronny ends up with the Lakers when everything is said and done. Hurley was thought to be a lock, too – and he ended up elsewhere when the dust finally settled.
