Chris Sutton Hails Celtic’s Resilience in Atalanta Draw, Mocks Rangers’ Past Reaction
Former Celtic striker and fan favourite Chris Sutton took to social media to commend Celtic’s battling performance in their 0-0 draw against Atalanta, while also taking a sly dig at Rangers. Sutton, never one to shy away from a bit of banter, made a veiled reference to Rangers’ much-mocked celebrations following a 3-3 draw against Celtic last season.
Sutton’s tweet read: “No celebrating a draw like others do… but a brave, organised defensive display from Celtic. Schmeichel a top class goalkeeper and some of the last-ditch defending was excellent from Trusty and Scales. A bit of pragmatism from Brendan Rodgers playing Idah up top👏👏☘️.”
While Sutton made it clear Celtic won’t be throwing any wild celebrations over a draw, he had high praise for the team’s disciplined performance in Italy. Highlighting the standout contributions of goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel and defenders Auston Trusty and Liam Scales, Sutton applauded the team’s resilience in the face of Atalanta’s powerful attack.
Schmeichel’s calm presence in goal was crucial to keeping a clean sheet, with Trusty and Scales both putting in vital defensive work to snuff out danger in key moments. Sutton also praised Brendan Rodgers’ tactical decision to start Adam Idah as a lone striker, which helped Celtic maintain shape and defend from the front.
With Celtic taking four points from their first three Champions League Games, they now move on to two home Games in a row in the comPetition. Leipzig and Club Brugge come to town, with Celtic looking for more results and points on the board.
