Celtic Flop in Fine Fettle With FC Basel
Celtic flop Albian Ajeti is in the form of his life with Swiss Super League side FC Basel.
The club has started the season adequately, but the striker’s performances have been a cut above.
Across six league appearances this campaign, Ajeti has scored four times and assisted thrice, averaging a goal contribution every 60 minutes in the new campaign.
The now-27-year-old joined Celtic in the summer of 2020 for £5m.
He came in from West Ham United with high expectations but he failed to kick on from an impressive start in green and white.
Ajeti eventually left on loan for Sturm Graz in 2022 before signing permanently with Gaziantep a year later.
His spell in Turkey, however, didn’t work out, and he returned to his boyhood club Basel in February.
When he initially came back, Ajeti had a difficult start, but in the new season, he has truly found his feet.
He leads the Swiss top-flight charts for goals and assists combined in what has been an eye-catching beginning to the campaign.
Ajeti will hope his purple patch prolongs, and that he can maintain consistency throughout this term.
His move to Celtic a few years ago simply didn’t work out, but it is pleasing to see him find his feet back home.
