Can Inter Miami and Lionel Messi break the MLS single season points record? Where to watch, live stream

On Saturday, Inter Miami can make more History when they face the New England Revolution. After securing their first Supporters' Shield in club History, the Herons can etch themselves in the Major League Soccer record books before kicking off their playoff journey. Inter Miami have a chance to break the single season points record of 73 points.

That record is actually held by the Revolution who set it in the 2021 season. Miami won't want to follow the Revolution's footsteps from that season as it saw the New England club crash out of the playoffs in their first Game, losing to New York City FC on penalties. That NYCFC side would go on to win MLS Cup, but even so if Miami followed in the Revolution's footsteps the season would go down as a failure even with the success, even if they lost to the eventual champions.

What does Miami need to do to set the points record?

The goal is simple, win and the record is theirs. Miami enter the match on 71 points, so only a win will do to set the record. A draw would come up one point short and a loss would also do nothing to help them. It's poetic that the Herons will face the current holders of the record with a chance to end the season on a high note.

Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez will also be battling it out to be Miami's highest goal scorers and have a slim chance at the MLS Golden Boot. Suarez has 18 goals while Messi has 17. The current Golden Boot leader is Christian Benteke with 23 goals so they'll need an epic match to catch the D.C. United man.
