Best MLB Player Prop Bets Today 8/27: Logan Gilbert earns another win | Pickswise
Welcome to another Tuesday in the Major League Baseball season! It might be hard to believe, but there are only a few weeks left in the regular season. The postseason race is starting to really heat up and teams are starting to press at the plate. I’ve taken a look at the player prop market today and found 2 best bets (one at plus odds!) that you should lock in. Let’s dive into today’s best MLB player prop bets, while you can also check out our MLB picks for Tuesday, August 27.
Cooper Criswell (BOS) over 2.5 earned runs allowed (-130)
Odds available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing
The Red Sox pitching is a mess right now. Their rotation has become an issue and their bullpen has been the worst in baseball since the all-star break. Boston is experimenting with the opener strategy and are now promoting Cooper Criswell back into the starting rotation. Criswell has bounced between the starting rotation, bullpen and Triple-A throughout the year and will get another starting opportunity tonight against the Blue Jays.
Here’s the thing — Criswell has struggled in his limited opportunities in the big leagues this month and is facing a Blue Jays lineup that has been great against right-handed pitchers lately. In fact, the Jays rank 9th in batting average, 6th in OPS and 5th in wRC+ against right-handed pitchers in August. Plus, the Red Sox bullpen is gassed so Alex Cora is going to try and stretch Criswell for as long as he can. At a hitter-friendly park against a struggling pitcher, the Jays should be able to knock Criswell around.
Logan Gilbert (SEA) to record a win (+115)
Odds available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing
The Rays lineup is absolutely terrible right now. Tampa Bay managed just 2 runs last night against Bryce Miller and the Seattle bullpen and it’s only going to get harder tonight as they face Logan Gilbert. Gilbert got roughed up in his last outing against the Dodgers, which was one of the few times this season that he has seemed hittable. He’s been one of the best pitchers in all of baseball this year, and a lot of that success is due to his performances at home.
Gilbert has a 2.53 ERA and a 0.82 WHIP in 12 starts in Seattle this year, but wait, it gets even more impressive. He’s limited hitters to a .185 batting average with just a .224 on-base percentage and a .548 OPS in those 12 outings. Tonight, Gilbert faces a Rays lineup that ranks 29th in batting average, OPS and wRC+ against right-handed pitchers in August. I’m not expecting the Rays to put up much of a fight tonight, so take Gilbert to record the win at fantastic odds.
