Anthony Edwards is one of the biggest stars in the NBA today. Be it for his troubling DMs leaking out or his girlfriend’s controversial behavior, he is constantly going viral for one reason or another.

This week Edwards found himself trending for addressing something of a touchy topic: French fans’ treatment of Joel Embiid.

Embiid became persona non grata in France after he opted to play for the U.S. men’s basketball team instead of the French one.

This has led to Embiid being booed mercilessly by fans at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Edwards, apparently, has had enough of that.

“I don’t know what is going on,” he said, per Jonas Miklovas of BasketNews. “I don’t know why [Embiid] gets booed all the time.”

At that point Embiid’s flip-flopping was mentioned. Edwards’ response was largely what you would expect.

“But you got Wemby [Victor Wembanyama] and Rudy [Gobert],” Edwards said regarding France’s current basketball team.

“Why would he play with y’all? Wemby and Rudy, what more do y’all want? You want three 7-footers?”

It is hard to argue with Edwards’ logic. Also, it is hard to ignore the fact that many people hate Gobert and Embiid likely didn’t want to play with him.

That said, it’s also hard to blame French fans for taking it personally.

Embiid made his choice, though – now he has to live with the consequences.
