American Theatre is proud to be the venue for Theatrical Mustang, an independently produced podcast from actor-writer-activist Woodzick. Every month they bring about listeners interviews with unbridled expertise and cultural trailblazers from throughout the nation.

For this month’s episode, Woodzick is in dialog with NYC performer John Coons, with matters starting from Eddie Redmayne’s Tony Awards efficiency to the trans musical theatre excellence of Jinkx Monsoon and Mason Alexander Park. Coons (they/he) is a queer, genderbendery actor, author, and songwriter in NYC. From dick jokes to Dichterliebe, they’re equally at dwelling singing about consuming the wealthy for the United Nations on the New York Historic Society or belting out Stravinsky in a homosexual bar. They’ve carried out with the Seattle Opera, Seattle Symphony, Boston Symphony Pops, Pittsburgh Symphony, and Atlanta Symphony, and shared the stage with Joshua Bell, Ben Folds, Amanda Palmer, Jinkx Monsoon, Rizo, and Foreigner. Favourite roles embody Pirelli in Sweeney Todd, Zangara in Assassins (fifth Avenue Theatre/ACT), Oswald in Ibsen’s Ghosts (ArtsWest), and the Scarecrow/Mrs. Penstemmon within the musical adaptation of Howl’s Shifting Fortress (Guide-It Repertory Theatre). A fixture on the NYC cabaret scene, he’s carried out at Joe’s Pub, the Inexperienced Room 42, and the Duplex, and was a member of the Mondays within the Membership collective at Membership Cumming. They’re presently touring their exhibits Bleak! Songs for the Not-Fairly-Finish of the World and Nocturnal Omissions in venues throughout the U.S. and Mexico with their accomplice and collaborator, Jonah Wheeler.
