All We Know About The Witcher Season 4, Including its Release Date, Plot, Trailer and Cast
In times when fantasy dramas are dominating the OTT space, Netflix’s The Witcher is one TV series that has captured the viewers’ fancy like no other.
Created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, the show is based on the books of the same name by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski and officially debuted in 2019. Over a span of five years, the franchise has come out with three seasons, an animated story film, and another prequel TV miniseries.
It looks like this wicked world of top-tier sorcery, violence and betrayal has kept fans hooked and on the edge of their seats as fans are now gearing up for The Witcher season 4.
Netflix announced in autumn 2022 that the show is getting renewed with the big update, confirming Liam Hemsworth will be taking over Henry Cavill’s character in the fourth season.
Now, with the excitement reaching a fever pitch and new cast members getting introduced, it is time to round up everything we know about The Witcher season 4.
What is ‘The Witcher’ about?
For the uninitiated, the show follows the story of Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), a lone monster hunter, who struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more snide than monsters and beasts. But when destiny pushes him towards a powerful sorceress – Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra) – and a young princess, Cirilla of Cintra (Freya Allan) with a special gift, the three must learn to navigate independently the volatile fictional world called the Continent.
Geralt of Rivia’s (the witcher) humanity is tested in this medieval dark fantasy world ruled by corrupt kings, queens and mages, unfolding drama that will keep you on the edge of your seat and make you question the moral compass of your beloved characters.
What could be the plot of ‘The Witcher’ season 4?
According to the synopsis shared by Netflix, the new season follows Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri as they traverse the war-ravaged Continent and its many demons after the events that close out season three. “If they can embrace and lead the groups of misfits they find themselves in, they have a chance of surviving the baptism of fire – and finding one another again,” the official logline reads.
Going by the season 3 finale, many plot details remain open-ended to be tied up. To begin with, there’s The Rats storyline as Ciri is now a part of the group of young criminals. So, fans can expect this development to feature in The Witcher’s fourth season.
While Ciri finds her place among The Rats, Geralt could be involved in a new coNFLict between two warring parties in a bid to protect Ciri from any harm.
As far as Yennefer is concerned, she will join Geralt to protect Ciri while trying to rebuild the damage done in the wake of the Aretuza bloodbath, and the loss of her mentor Tissaia.
Meanwhile, in Redania, Prince Radovid (Hugh Skinner) has now become King Radovid and Jaskier (Joey Batey) may support Geralt in combating the new king.
That said, these are mere speculations and we can’t wait to see how things unfold in the next season.
Do we have a release date for ‘The Witcher’ season 4?
While the makers and the streamer have officially confirmed that The Witcher season 4 has been renewed, we don’t yet have the exact release date. However, considering that the filming began in March 2024 and will last until October 2024, fans can expect an early 2025 release.
Who is making it to the cast of ‘The Witcher’ season 4?
The biggest update on the cast of The Witcher season 4 is that The Hunger Games actor Liam Hemsworth will be taking on the role of Geralt of Rivia. This update has drawn the most off-screen backlash from the fans, with their beloved Henry Cavill stepping down from the iconic role.
Other additions to the cast include Sharlto Copley, James Purefoy and Danny Woodburn who will be playing bounty hunter Leo Bonhart, advisor Skellen, and the dwarf Zoltan, respectively.

Another new addition, Regis, a barber-surgeon, has also been confirmed for the next season. The Matrix actor Laurence Fishburne will assume this role.
