The Canadian defender’s robust performances and consistent reliability on the field have not only endeared him to the fans but have also earned him the trust of manager Brendan Rodgers.

Recently, Johnston was given the honour of wearing the captain’s armband in the absence of regular skipper Callum McGregor for Games against Motherwell and Dundee. Bice captain Cameron Carter-Vickers was also out, which opened the door for a new leader to step forward.

It has to be said that it wasn’t much of a surprise to see Johnston come to the fore take the amrband.

Reflecting on the responsibility and his first experience leading the pre-match Huddle, Johnston shared with the Times Colonist the succinct advice he received from his teaMMAtes:

“They just said, ‘Keep it short.’

“(It was) a massive honour, especially being Canadian. … It’s a very storied Football club.”

The Canadian is edging closer to a new and improved contact at Celtic, which will see him extend his stay at the club.

Aged 26, he’s in the peak of his career and he may well look to spend that in Glasgow, which is only good news for Celtic fans. He’s adding goals to his Game this season, whiel continuing to set his teaMMAtes up as Celtic look to win four in a row.
