The Los Angeles Lakers were expected to make some big moves this summer. They appeared to be in contention for the services of both Klay Thompson and Jonas Valanciunas at one point, but in the end they weren’t able to get either one.

From there L.A. became one of three teams vying for Zach LaVine and started kicking the tires on a Trae Young trade. Their best offer for Young is a matter of public record, as is their best offer for Lauri Markkanen.

That being said, for all the talk, the Lakers have little to show for their efforts so far this summer.

What exactly can we expect from Rob Pelinka and Co. going forward? ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski addressed that very question on Wednesday.

“It’s a very limited market out there,” Wojnarowski said.

“It is a limited trade market unless you want to put draft picks with contracts to get money off, you’re going to have trouble really adding to your roster.

“I don’t expect the Lakers to look a whole lot different on opening night than they do now. There’s some moves around the edges, (but) I don’t sense there’s a big impact move out there for the Lakers or very many teams right now.”

Obviously that isn’t what Lakers fans wanted to hear, but it also definitely aligns with the organization’s moves thus far.

Clearly L.A. brass wants to improve the team, but there simply aren’t any realistic levers to pull.

Hence LeBron James accepting a max contract on Wednesday. There was simply no one else to spend that money on who would be willing to join the purple and gold.

Can the Lakers still pull a big trade out of their hat between now and the start of next season? Sure. Is that where the smart money’s at, though? Probably not.
