Adam Idah’s Hero’s Welcome in Cork
Celtic striker Adam Idah has scored several crucial goals since joining the Hoops on loan from Norwich at the tail-end of the winter transfer window.
Across ten league appearances in Glasgow, the 23-year-old has netted seven times and assisted a further twice.
His penalties at Eater Road were nothing short of pivotal, as was his brace at Fir Park a few weeks later.
Idah put the Celts 3-2 up at Ibrox a little over a week ago and had they held on for the victory on that day, it would have been an iconic goal. Despite the Gers coming back to secure a 3-3 draw, the significance of the strike should not be underestimated.
Cork-born, Idah had vast knowledge of Celtic before joining the club. His friends were fans growing up and although they adored the fact he was a professional Footballer, their love went up another level when he made the move to Parkhead.
The 23-year-old recalled the hero’s welcome he got when he made a flying visit to his hometown during last month’s international break. He said: [RecordSport] “I popped into a couple of pubs back home in Cork. I didn’t expect all that, to be honest. I was shocked when I walked in!
“It was great seeing everyone. They sent me some footage of the place from the other weekend watching the Rangers Game and the place looked amazing. It’s not far from where I grew up. My mate took me down and we met some fans and the owners. It was top class.
“I don’t think I would have got that reception if I wasn’t at Celtic. They’d just think I was just another local lad. Coming here you are treated like a hero wherever you go. It’s fantastic. I don’t know if I’ll need to buy a pint again – I hope not!”
Should Idah extend his stay at Celtic, he won’t have to worry about paying for his drinks anywhere in Glasgow or Ireland.
The majority of fans would like to see him become a permanent member of the squad beyond the summer but CeltsAreHere revealed last week that Norwich would want north of £6m for him.
They know the ball is in their court and that they possess the upper hand in any negotiations.
Whether Idah joins Celtic permanently or not, if the title returns to Parkhead in May, his initial acquisition can be categorised as a success.
