2024 The Sentry: Round 1 Thursday tee times, pairings, and featured groups
The 2024 PGA Tour season is set to kick off with the Sentry Tournament of Champions, which will take place at the Kapalua Resort’s Plantation Course in Hawaii starting on Thursday, January 4th. The event, formerly known as the Sentry Tournament of Champions, will feature a field of 59 players comPeting for a $20 million purse, with the winner taking home $3.6 million.
The Sentry will see a stacked field of 2023 PGA Tour winners and the top 50 finishers from the FedEx Cup points list. Some notable players expected to comPete include Viktor Hovland, Scottie Scheffler, Patrick Cantlay, and Max Homa.
While the absence of Jon Rahm, one of the top three players in the world over the past seven years, is being felt by some Golf enthusiasts, the tournament still presents a significant opportunity for players to start their year off strong and potentially go on a winning streak.
The Signature Event Series, which features only 80 players with limited cuts, adds an element of exclusivity and unpredictability to the comPetition. This format could lead to unexpected victories, with players like Scottie Scheffler and Viktor Hovland possibly taking advantage of the opportunity to secure multiple wins early in the season.
There is also a discussion around the financial rewards for top players, with Jordan Spieth in an excellent position to accumulate substantial earnings throughout 2024, thanks to a favorable schedule that includes the Signature Events such as the Sentry Tournament, Pebble Beach, API, and potentially the Masters.
