2024 Boston Marathon: The best spots in the city to watch the race

The Boston Athletic Association, which organizes the race, has stressed the importance of avoiding running alongside the comPetitors or impeding the runners in any way. The group reminds spectators that they are prohibited from entering the course so that all race participants can have a clear route and enjoy an outstanding race experience.

The BAA has added more barriers to prevent non-racers from entering the courts, and urges fans to read the “Spectator Guidelines” they have issued.

If you want to enjoy watching the race in person, it’s best to check out the best vantage points from which to view it.

The course begins in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, and ends on Boylson Street in Boston.

Here are some areas where you can catch the Boston Marathon action, according to the BAA.

Course section	Features
Ashland	Although the high volume of runners will make it hard to spot individual runners, Ashland holds a special place in Boston Marathon because the race began there until 1924.
Framingham	Framingham has also long been a part of the marathon’s history. If you intend to drive there, keep in mind that roads near the course will begin to close at 7:30 a.m.
Natick	Natick is an exciting place for runners and spectators alike, as this is where the competitors pass the 10-mile mark. If you want to catch this important milestone, get off the Natick MBTA Station.
Wellesley	Runners reach the marathon’s half-way mark at Wellesley. The best way to get to the area is via the Worcester/Framingham Commuter Rail line on the MBTA.
Newton	One highlight of the Boston Marathon is found in Newton. This place is home to “Heartbreak Hill”, which as it name suggests, is a grueling portion of the course.
Brookline	As the race nears its end, you may want to catch it Brookline and historic Beacon Street. Fans can access the Cleveland Circle area by taking the B, C, or D branch of the MBTA Green Line.
