Harry Kewell on the brink of big achievement just months after leaving Celtic

Harry Kewell’s short and sweet spell at Celtic can go down as a complete success.

He was appointed by former manager Ange Postecoglou in the summer of 2022 to add big-time quality and experience to the Bhoys coaching staff after a stellar playing career at the highest level.

His management and coaching career up to that point hadn’t seen much success but the Celtic opportunity was a chance for him to reset and refocus.

Kewell was popular with players and staff, becoming a key part of the group that delivered a superb treble during the 2022/23 season.

Now, having left the Bhoys late last year to pursue a dream of being a revered manager in his own right at Yokohama F.Marinos, he could achieve something that even eluded his mentor Postecoglou.

Kewell targets Asian Champions League glory

On Wednesday, Kewell guided his team into the final of the AFC Champions League for just the second time in their History – against all odds.

Marinos were down to ten men for the entire second half and extra-time period but managed to emerge victorious on penalties against South Korean side Ulsan after an epic 3-3 aggregate draw.

Kewell has been in charge of Yokohama’s entire knockout run in the tournament, also defeating Bangkok United of Taiwan and China’s Shandong Taishan.

The Japanese outfit will now face Hernan Crespo’s Al-Ain in a two-legged final that takes place on 11th and 25th May.

Postecoglou famously enjoyed title success with Yokohama, but didn’t get past the last 16 stage in continental comPetition, demonstrating that Kewell’s run shouldn’t be underrated.

It’d be fantastic to see him lift the silverware next month and catapult his coaching career to new heights. Good luck Harry!
