2023-24 UEFA Champions League group stage matchday six: fixtures, dates, kick-off times, standings…
The likes of Real Madrid, Manchester City and Bayern Munich booked their places in the 2023-24 UEFA Champions League Round of 16 all the way back on matchday four and have been joined by 10 other clubs ahead of matchday six.
Much has already been decided ahead of the final round of group-stage fixtures, with only four spots in the first knock round still up for grabs. In four of the eight groups, the two qualified teams are already known.
Manchester United need minor miracle to avoid Champions League elimination
The main drama is likely to come in Group A, where Manchester United will be desperately trying to avoid being the highest-profile casualty of this first round. The Red Devils have to beat already-qualified Bayern Munich at Old Trafford and hope Copenhagen and Galatasaray play out a draw in Denmark. It’s not looking good for Erik Ten Hag’s side.
For a long time on matchday five, it looked as if Napoli would secure their place in the next round but conceded two late goals and now need to do better than lose by two goals at home to Braga in their final game in Group C.
Arsenal and PSV are already through in first and second respectively from Group B, while Inter and Real Sociedad will face off at San Siro to see who tops Group D, with the two teams level on points.
PSG, Newcastle and Milan hope to survive “Group of Death”
Group F was much anticipated and christened the “Group of Death” almost as soon as the second team was drawn out of the hat all the way back in August. Borussia Dortmund have already qualified after winning their last three Games, while Paris Saint-Germain are in the driving seat for the second spot but could still be overtaken by either Newcastle United or AC Milan.
Atlético Madrid and Lazio will battle it out in the Spanish capital to see who tops Group E, while it’s winner-takes-all in Portugal as Porto and Shakhtar meet to decide which team joins Barcelona in qualifying from Group H. Group G, meanwhile, is already decided, with Manchester City through in first and RB Leipzig in second.
When is the Round of 16? When is the draw?
The first legs of the Round of 16 ties will be played on 13, 14, 20 and 21 February next year, with the returns following on 5, 6, 12 and 13 March. The draw will be made on 18 December.
