As you plan out your Halloween watchlist this October, make sure you mark down these incredible horrors and thrillers shot in the Hudson Valley.

The Girl on the Train - 2016

Commuter Rachel Watson (Emily Blunt) catches daily glimpses of a seemingly perfect couple, Scott and Megan, from the window of her train. One day, Watson witnesses something shocking unfold in the backyard of the strangers' home. Rachel tells the authorities what she thinks she saw after learning that Megan is now missing and feared dead. Unable to trust her own memory, the troubled woman begins her own investigation, while police suspect that Rachel may have crossed a dangerous line.

Much of this film took place on and was filmed on the Metro-North Hudson Line from upstate New York into New York City. The final scene was filmed at Bear Mountain in Rockland County.

It Comes At Night - 2017

After a Mysterious apocalypse leaves the world with few survivors, two families are forced to share a home in an uneasy alliance to keep the outside evil at bay -- only to learn that the true horror may come from within. While the exact location of the cabin in the film is not specified, the movie was primarily filmed in and around Woodstock, New York, in the United States. The film's remote and wooded setting adds to its sense of isolation and tension.

A Quiet Place - 2018 / A Quiet Place Part II - 2021

A Quiet Place is an American apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic horror media franchise centered on a series of films set in a world inhabited by blind extraterrestrial creatures with a heightened sense of hearing. Filmed in locations including the Springtown Truss Bridge on the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail, the towns of Pawling and Beacon in Dutchess County, and Main Street in Little Falls, those familiar with local landscapes may find that this movie’s backdrop hits close to home.

Depraved - 2019

A disillusioned field surgeon who is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder makes a man out of body parts and brings him to life in a Brooklyn loft. Depraved is a modern take on Mary Shelley's classic tale, set in a world of wartime trauma and medical-breakthrough profiteering. The movie follows three troubled men, including Henry, an ex-army medic with PTSD, and Adam, a cadaverous amnesiac. The 2019 movie Depraved was filmed in Brooklyn, New York, and Kingston, New York.

What Breaks the Ice - 2020

Two teenage girls from different worlds form an unlikely friendship in the sweltering summer heat of 1998, but their fun and carefree days turn cold when they find themselves at the centre of a Mysterious murder. The film was shot primarily in New York's Hudson Valley. “As a New York-based company, we are proud to support New York filMMAkers and the film industry in our state,” said Saboteur Media executive producer David Kennedy. The 2020 movie What Breaks the Ice was filmed in Cold Spring and Beacon, New York, including at Beacon Pantry, which is located at 382 Main St., Beacon, New York.

Slapface - 2021

After the death of his mother, Lucas, a loner who lives in a rundown home with his brother Tom, regularly seeks solace in the nearby woods. With his only “friends” being a group of female bullies, he keeps to himself most of the time. But, after a strange encounter with an inhuman monster, Lucas begins to withdraw from others. When the two reach a tentative trust, a bizarre friendship is born, and Lucas is swept up in a series of primal adventures.

The film was shot at Umbra Sound Stages in Newburgh, New York and on location in the Hudson Valley from November 10 to December 3, 2019. The bar scenes were filmed at The Golden Rail Ale House in Newburgh.

Things Heard and Seen - 2021

A Manhattan couple moves to a historic hamlet in the Hudson Valley and come to discover that their marriage has a sinister darkness, one that rivals their new home’s History. Based on the acclaimed novel by Elizabeth Brundage. Locations were used throughout the region thanks to the talent of (location manager) Kurt Enger and his crew, including Myna Joseph. Featured locations in the film were found in Millerton, Red Hook, Tivoli, Kingston, Palenville, and Ulster, in Dutchess and Ulster Counties NY.

We're All Going to the World's Fair - 2021

Late on a cold night somewhere in the U.S., teenage Casey sits alone in her attic bedroom, scrolling the internet under the glow-in-the-dark stars and black-light posters that blanket the ceiling. She has finally decided to take the World's Fair Challenge, an online role-playing horror Game, and embrace the uncertainty it promises. After the initiation, she documents the changes that may or may not be happening to her, adding her experiences to the shuffle of online clips available for the world to see. As she begins to lose herself between dream and reality, a Mysterious figure reaches out, claiming to see something special in her uploads. The New Year's Eve Ball Drop Scene was shot on Main Street in Saugerties while the Best Buy was shot in Middletown.

Crumb Catcher - 2023

A newlywed couple is held captive in a remote lake house by a maniacally optimistic inventor and his sour wife who are desperate to finance his dream project with a half-baked blackmail plot. The 2024 movie Crumb Catcher was filmed at an undisclosed remote estate in upstate New York, said to be in the Hudson Valley.

Blackout - 2023

A fine arts painter becomes convinced that he is a werewolf wreaking havoc on a small American town under the full moon. The film was shot within a few miles of director Larry Fessenden's home, which allowed him to make deals with locals to use their locations for free. The film's tax incentives came from Fessenden's previous film, Depraved. The 2023 horror film Blackout was filmed in the Hudson Valley region of New York, including Woodstock, Olivebridge, Andes, and Kingston.
