Between Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War arc, Jujutsu Kaisen and Oshi no Ko, it looks like the stacked slate of Japanese anime is only growing. This year is no different. With a line-up ranging from highly anticipated sequels for popular existing shows to fresh series grabbing eyeballs, the list of upcoming anime releasing in 2024 is extensive. If you’re having trouble keeping up, here’s a list of 10 upcoming anime releasing in 2024 that are worth checking out:

Demon Slayer Season 4

Demon Slayer might just be the most popular anime at the moment. The series that follows Tanjiro, his half-demon sister Nezuko and his friends Inosuke and Zenitsu, will adapt from the Hashira Training Arc before delving into the Final Battle Arc. The fourth season will see Tanjiro take a step closer to becoming one of the Hashira. He will go up against the Upper-Rank demons as the premise promises lots of action. While the arc only has a few chapters, episodes will also adapt from the light novel.

My Hero Academia Season 7

The heroes are back and they’re bringing their A-Game in My Hero Academia Season 7. Picking up where Season 6 left off, the show will follow Star and Stripe, America’s heroes who arrive upon the scene to help Deku after he blames himself for all the destruction caused by One For All. Along with the Star and Stripe arc, the anime will also adapt the U.A. Traitor arc from the manga. It revolves around Deku discovering a leak of information to the enemy.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Conflict

One of the classics, Shonen anime Bleach, is still going strong if you can believe it. The Thousand Year Blood War arc has four parts. The latest instalment, The Conflict, will adapt the final arc in which the most powerful characters – the Wandenreich’s emperor Yhwach and Squad Zero’s captain Ichibe Hyosube, will clash in an all-out battle. The teaser offered a glimpse of what to expect and it’s as exciting as it gets for loyal fans of the manga and anime.

Dragon Ball Daima

It’s a good time for Dragon Ball fans as the iconic franchise announced the release of Dragon Ball Daima for its 40th anniversary. Late author Akira Toriyama was involved in the anime’s scripting which adds to the anticipation around the series. The anime will have a new storyline that follows the adventures of Goku and his friends as they find themselves mysteriously shrunk. Dragon Ball Daima is set for a Fall 2024 release.

Oishi no Ko Season 2

Oishi no Ko is an interesting series about a doctor and his dead patient who in their next birth are born as twins. Their parent is a popular Japanese idol. The unique storyline sees the characters navigate fame, showbiz and more as the twins grow up amidst the Entertainment industry. After the open-ended first instalment, Season 2 will unfold a new chapter as new adventures await.

Dandadan

It’s about to get spooky! One of the new anime series announced for 2024 is Dandadan, a thriller anime that follows classmates Okarun and Momo Ayase who venture into an abandoned UFO spotting site that is known to be haunted. The two want to prove that ghosts and aliens exist and they’re willing to go to any lengths to win a bet. As they develop interesting powers, sparks fly between the two as they embark on a battle against the occult. The anime promises a curious blend of paranormal happenings and adolescent romance.

Blue Lock Season 2

Over a year after the announcement, the sports anime Blue Lock Season 2 is on its way. The show which hits streaming on October 2024, will follow footballer Isagi Yoichi as he enrols in the titular training regime devised by Ego Jinpachi. The stakes are high as anyone who fails their training cannot represent Japan on the national level ever again. Yoichi aims to be the greatest striker out there. While the first season took on international football, the next one promises to be just as engaging and dramatic.

Suicide Squad Isekai

Every time a major franchise has been given the anime treatment, it has worked. Think Batman Ninja. After series like The Rising of the Shield Hero and Sword Art Online, the Isekai genre that sees protagonists enter fascinating parallel worlds is about to get an interesting new addition. Featuring characters originated by DC Comics, Suicide Squad Isekai will reportedly see Harley Quinn and Joker enter a magical world where they will run into all kinds of trouble. Judging by the trailers, the anime is colourful in typical Suicide Squad fashion with familiar DC characters including King Shark, Peacemaker and Clayface taking centre stage. It’ll be interesting to see the superhero franchise crossover with Japanese anime.

Kimi ni Todoke Season 3

Romance anime Kimi ni Todoke is one of the long-awaited titles on the list and by that, we mean 13 years. For the uninitiated, the slice-of-life anime revolves Sawako Kuronuma a shy girl who seems to scare off her classmates enough for them to compare her to Sadako from the horror movie, The Ring. Her admiration for the popular kid in class, Kazehaya, slowly brings her out of her shell. And while she doesn’t know it, Kazehaya also takes an interest in her. As she starts making friends, she has wholesome new experiences with those around her.

Tower of God Season 2

After a successful first season, Tower of God returns for a victory lap with Tower of God Season 2. Based on the South Korean webtoon of the same name, the anime revolves around the protagonist Bam’s ambitious quest to scale the tower. The odds are against him as she’s an Irregular – someone who can’t enter the tower, but that only strengthens his drive. While the anime was announced back in 2022, it will be released somewhere in July 2024
