Donovan Mitchell is listed as questionable for Game 5 of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ NBA Playoffs series with the Boston Celtics today, as the guard continues to deal with a muscle injury.

What injury does Mitchell have?

Having suffered a left calf strain late on in Game 3 of the teams’ Eastern Conference semi-final on Saturday, Mitchell sat out Game 4 on Monday. In the 27-year-old’s absence, the Cavaliers were beaten 109-102 by the Celtics, who now lead the series 3-1.

Speaking after the defeat at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, Cleveland head coach JB Bickerstaff said the team is taking Mitchell’s fitness “day by day”.

Mitchell has been in fine form for the Cavaliers this postseason, top-scoring for the Ohioans eight times so far - including a 50-point haul in Game 6 of Cleveland’s first-round series against the Orlando Magic. In his 10 appearances in the 2024 NBA Playoffs, he has averaged 28.6 points.

Who else is on the Cavaliers’ injury report?

Jarrett Allen and Caris LeVert are both also reported as questionable for Game 5 against the Celtics. Allen has missed the Cavaliers’ last seven Games with a right rib contusion, and LeVert is suffering from what is described on the official NBA injury report as a “bone bruise” in his left knee. Meanwhile, Craig Porter is doubtful with a left ankle sprain that has ruled him out of the last 11 Games.

Ty Jerome remains a long-term injury absentee. The point guard underwent ankle surgery in January, and last played for the Cavaliers in October.
