Using the average NBA salary to measure what everyone in the league earns is not ideal because the wages at the upper end are so high that they distort the results. Instead, it’s better to look at the median salary, which represents the middle point of all wages in the league.

According to Basketball Reference, the median NBA salary for the 2024-25 season is $6,696,429.

This is the highest median salary among the four major professional sports leagues.

There is a massive disparity between the lowest and highest-paid players in the NBA. The minimum salary for an NBA player in the upcoming season will be somewhere north of $1.1 million, while the highest-paid player will be Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, who will earn $55.8 million for the 2024-25 season.

Additionally, five players are set to make more than $50 million during the upcoming season. Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic and Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid will earn $51.42 million, Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant is due to make $51.18 million, and Suns guard Bradley Beal will earn $50.2 million.

Who’s going to be paid the least in the league?

The 19-year-old American professional basketball player for the Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association (NBA), Tyler Smith, who previously played for the NBA G League Ignite teams, will be the lowest-paid player this season with a yearly salary of $1,157,153.

Smith was a five-star recruit and one of the top players in the 2023 class.

The Milwaukee Bucks selected him with the 33rd overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft, and on July 5, he signed with them.
