The Cleveland Indians will host the Chicago White Sox for Game one of their divisional series this weekend from Progressive Field.
White Sox Preview & Projected Starter
Chicago enters at 43-67 after being swept by Texas. The White Sox looked lifeless in Arlington this week, and after trading key production away, these next two months may be very troubling in the Southside. Pedro Grifol‘s team sits at the bottom of the AL Central, as they’ve failed to reach expectations this season. The Chicago offense is 4.72 scoring runs per Game, while batting .235, with a .292 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 5.72 ERA, with a 1.21 WHIP.
Mike Clevinger (4-4, 4.19 ERA, 26 Ks) will take the mound for Chicago. The eighth-year right-hander looked good in his matchup at home last time out versus Cleveland, tossing five innings of shutout ball en route to his fourth win of the season. Clevinger returned after missing over a month to toss the scoreless outing, and it’ll be interesting to see how he fares against a weaker lineup on the road this time around.

White Sox Player Trends & Props
• Luis Robert had hits in three of four Games against Cleveland last weekend, and he leads Chicago in hits (109), home runs (29), and RBI (60).
• Andrew Vaughn has recorded a hit in eight of the previous nine games, and he’s posting splits of .246/13/58.
• Eloy Jiménez has similarly collected a hit in eight of the last ten games, and he’s totaled an identical thirteen homers and 48 RBI, while leading the Sox in batting (.281).
• Tim Anderson had multiple hits in the game three loss to Houston, and he’s batting .245.
Guardians Preview & Projected Starter
Cleveland moved to 53-56 after being swept by Houston. The Guardians also had a tough time in Texas, as their own mini fire sale has put a cloud on their season outlook. Terry Francona’s team still sits second in the AL Central, just two Games back of Minnesota. The Cleveland offense is scoring 3.98 runs per Game, while batting .253, with a .316 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.83 ERA, with a 1.26 WHIP.
Logan Allen (1-1, 2.70 ERA, 17 Ks) will take the hill for Cleveland. The rookie pitcher struggled in his matchup with Chicago last week, allowing five runs in six innings before dropping the decision. Allen is now 0-2 against the White Sox through three starts, so the first-year pitcher should get up for this rematch Friday.
Guardians Player Trends & Props
• Jose Ramirez was quiet in Houston thru three Games, but he had a big series versus Chicago last week, and he should rev things up for divisional ball this weekend. Ramirez leads Cleveland in hits (119) and home runs (18), while batting .288 and totaling 63 RBI.
• Josh Naylor’s status for this matchup will be worth monitoring after missing the final two games in Houston, as he’s posting team-leads in batting (.306) and RBI (79), with fifteen homers.
• Steven Kwan had multiple hits in three of four matchups with Chicago last week, and he’s tied with JRam for the team-lead in hits (119), while batting .274.
Corey’s Free Pick
Cleveland and Chicago weren't fond of the Texas heat this week, as they were both torched and swept. The Guardians never really responded to being no-hit by Framber Valdez in Houston, and with them still within reach of a division crown, they have to show some kind of fight this weekend. The White Sox have essentially threw in the towel, but this is a division battle, and they hold the advantage on the offensive end. If Josh Naylor misses time, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Chicago take this series. Spot the Sox the runs here, and double down with the Over, as neither pitcher has been shutdown this season.
