The 2024 WNBA playoffs get underway this weekend with eight teams looking to book a place in the semifinals with the first round games to be concluded over the next few days following a best of three games series.

Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever face Connecticut Sun in a best of three clash with the former Iowa State University player taking a while to acclimatize to the league after the 22-year-old and the Fever got off to a sluggish. The Indiana team lost their opening five Games with the Iowa native getting off to a poor start compared to the level of expectation thrust on her young shoulders.

Indiana Fever ended the regular season in sixth with a 20-20 record and will face the third placed Sun, who finished 28-12 - posting the most regular season wins in franchise History. The Sun had the edge over Indiana during the regular season, winning the first three Games (92-71, 88-84, 89-72) but lost the most recent Game 84-80 back at the tail end of August.

Clark in running for WNBA MVP Award?

Despite Clark’s impact on the league, delivering sold-out arenas with every Fever game and the boost her presence has had in enhancing the league’s profile, it’s anticipated that the 22-year-old will not pick up another accolade in the 2024 season with the MVP Award.

As things stand, everything points to Las Vegas Aces’ A’ja Wilson the firm favorite to win the league’s most valuable player award, aiming to become the fourth player in WNBA history to win it three times.

All is not lost for the Fever star however with Clark the odds on favorite to pick up Rookie of the Year following a historic start to her career in the WNBA.

The 2024 WNBA Awards are expected to be rolled out in the next few days with the regular season having finished on Thursday (19 September).
